ORIGINAL Newport Wasp Dick Bradley has died at the age of 97.

Bradley, from Wiltshire, rode for the Wasps in their initial season at Somerton Park when the sport was launched there in 1964.

Unfortunately he was injured at the track in June 1965 and retired, ending an outstanding career with Bristol, Southampton and Newport when he had been three times a world finalist and a multi-capped international rider.

At the climax of Newport's first season in the sport, Bradley was the top scorer in their cup final victory over Cradley Heath.

Upon retirement he served for many seasons as the Swindon Robins’ team manager.
