NEWPORT aim to bring up a century in the Premiership this weekend - and then leave head coach Ty Morris with some selection headaches for the play-offs.

The Black and Ambers finish the regular season by welcoming Bridgend to Spytty Park on Saturday afternoon.

Newport are on a 13-game winning streak, top the table on 99 points and are hunting a bonus-point win against the Ravens to leave second-placed Llandovery with little margin for error in the race for first, which has the prize of home advantage in the semis and final.

The Drovers would need to beat Aberavon at the Talbot Athletic Ground on Saturday then Swansea and Bridgend at Church Bank, two of those triumphs with bonuses.

Regardless of where Newport finish and who they face on May 4, Morris is braced for some tough calls.

“Once we knew we were in the top four I needed to rest some players up because some of them were battered after playing 80 minute so many times in a row,” said the head coach.

“We have rotated and that has given opportunities to others who have really stepped up. They realised the importance of the winning run.

“We are starting to get back to a position of strength and by the play-offs we will have pretty much everybody back and players knocking at the door.”

Stalwart flanker Rhys Jenkins is out for the rest of the season but lock Barny Langton-Cryer, fly-half Jac Lloyd, centre/wing Jonny Morris and full-back Ioan Davies are nearing returns.

Newport hope that they will host a semi-final with a winning streak still intact after taking on a Bridgend side who they beat 57-27 at the Brewery Field in December.

“It’s 13 games on the trot and winning is a good habit to have. It’s about keeping that momentum for the semi-final, whether Cardiff or Ebbw Vale.

“We want to finish the regular season with a bang in front of our own supporters and the pleasing thing for me is that performances have got better throughout the season.

“Of course there are some games where we think we have gone backwards but in general we have made little increments, which I hope will continue through the play-offs.”

And Morris isn’t getting hung up over whether the Drovers overtake them by having a perfect end to the campaign.

“Last year Cardiff finished top but it’s the games after that really matter,” said the head coach, whose side could potentially play a final at Rodney Parade.

The battle for the fourth and final spot in the play-offs will be decided if Cardiff take the spoils against Merthyr.

The Blue and Blacks will be out of reach for Pontypool if they win against the Iromnen at the Arms Park.

If Merthyr, who were edged out by Llandovery in the Premiership Cup final at Principality Stadium last Sunday, upset Cardiff then it will leave the door open for Pontypool.

Pooler are next in action on Thursday when they travel to Eugene Cross Park to face Ebbw Vale.

They then host Merthyr before a trip to Colwyn Bay to face RGC on April 27.
