TOMMY Doherty and Tom Miller have become the latest victims of Justin Edinburgh’s rebuilding job at Newport County.

The Exiles boss has terminated the contracts of the midfield pair as he continues to remould the squad he inherited from his predecessor Anthony Hudson.

On a busy transfer deadline day, Edinburgh also snapped up a striker to help in the battle against relegation from the Conference.

After bringing in winger Romone Rose last week, Edinburgh has added front man Jake Reid to his squad in the hope that the pair can emulate the success of namesakes Danny Rose and Craig Reid at Spytty Park.

Jake Reid was released by Blue Square Bet South side Salisbury City this week and has signed a contract to the end of this season.

The 24-year-old will be unable to make his debut in Saturday’s FA Trophy clash with Carshalton as he is cup-tied after scoring twice in the competition in a 6-2 home defeat to York City on January 14.

“He’s a big strong lad who is full of running,” said director of football Tim Harris after the deal was done last night.

“He has shown great interest in coming here and we’re delighted to have him on board.”

Harris also confirmed that Doherty and Miller had left the club by “mutual consent” and at “minimal” cost.

County are still waiting on international clearance for Rose after his release by Thai club Muangthong United but there is better news on midfielder Lee Minshull, who has extended his loan stay from AFC Wimbledon until the end of the season.

“Rose has signed on non-contract terms,” said Harris. “We’re still waiting on clearance but he is now officially registered with the Conference as a Newport County player.”

County have signed seven players in total during the January transfer window with Reid and Rose joining Nat Jarvis, Andy Sandell, Ryan Charles, Adam Chapman and Minshull.

Doherty and Miller joined Danny Rose, Robbie Matthews and Craig McAllister in leaving the club since January 1.

Meanwhile, former Exiles favourite Jamie Collins has signed for Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Forest Green for an undisclosed fee from Aldershot.

Shots manager and ex-County boss Dean Holdsworth said: "Jamie has been a good friend of mine for a number of years and a player who has always given me everything he could. I want to thank him for his work, his professionalism and to wish him well for his new club.”
