NEWPORT Gwent Dragons pair Aled Brew and Jamie Ringer were called in for this week's two-day Wales training camp ahead of the Autumn internationals.

Wales coach Gareth Jenkins and his coaching team have been impressed by their form, with Brew a revelation since joining the Dragons on loan for the season from the Ospreys.

The younger brother of Nathan Brew, he scored three tries in his opening two Magners League games, one against Glasgow and two against Ulster.

He also made the break for Kevin Morgan's try at Leicester on Saturday and has generally lit up the Dragons backline with his lightning runs.

Ringer, switched to regular openside since the departure of Jason Forster, has also been in great form, playing in the first four league matches, the last against Borders despite suffering from a flu bug.

He has been at his scavenging best as a tearaway flanker as well as impressing with his line-out ability at the tail.

The call-up of Brew and Ringer took the number of Dragons players involved in the two-day Wales session to eight - Morgan, Ceri Sweeney, Gareth Cooper, Rhys Thomas, Ian Gough and Michael Owen the others.

But there has been no place for lock Luke Charteris or back row forward Colin Charvis.

Charteris admitted last week he had ruled out any possibility of being involved in the Autumn series after being injured at the end of last season and then damaging ankle ligaments at the start of this season.

He returned against Leicester after going on in the second half against Borders, but was still limping at the end and may not be available for Saturday's EDF Energy Anglo-Welsh Cup game against Northampton at Rodney Parade.

Charvis missed a whole pre-season after Newcastle released him and it was not until August that he joined the Dragons, but if he maintains his current form a return to the Wales fold can't be ruled out.

The Dragons may be without hooker Steve Jones for some time while back row forward Joe Bearman is also struggling.

Jones has been troubled by a shoulder injury all season and was seeing a specialist today amid fears he may need an operation, while Bearman has had a scan after being troubled by a hip injury and he may need to rest it for a few weeks.

At least the Dragons have significant cover at hooker this season with the arrival of Ben Daly and the return to fitness after a shoulder operation of Kieran Crawford.

And coach Paul Turner was facing a back row headache with Ringer, Charvis, Owen, Bearman and Nic Fitisemanu to choose from.

Turner won't be able to name a team to face Northampton until Friday because of the injuries to Jones and Bearman, while Nathan Brew has continuing rib problems, Gareth Wyatt has a groin strain and the fitness of Cooper and Owen has to be checked when they return from Wales training.

They both went on in the second half at Leicester, Owen for the first time this season after a shoulder operation and Cooper for the first time since February after dislocating his shoulder.
