NEWPORT County travel to Cambridge City on Saturday hoping to continue their fine start to the season.

The Exiles, currently fifth in the Nationwide South, face tenth placed Cambridge and captain John Brough is bouyant ahead of their trip.

County have won their last two games and the Exiles skipper is confident that they can now make it three out of three.

He said: "Saturday was pleasing for us. It is always nice to go away and get a result, it could have been a tricky tie for us, a potential banana skin, but we were professional and got the result we needed.

"We had a lot to lose but stuck to our task and it is great to be in the next round.

"The draw has again been kind to us, all you ask for is to be at home and we got that and Bishops Cleeve will be another tricky test for us.

"For me in particular the game has a little more meaning as I live close to there, just outside Cheltenham and know a few of the players.

"The manager Paul Collicutt also used to play for County so they will be up for it."

But it's back to the league for County, and Brough is hopeful that County can come away with another three points to keep up with the early pace-setters in the Nationwide South.

He said: "We've had a good start to the season and we need to maintain that form.

"Cambridge are in a similar position to us, there are only a few points between us so it should be a good test. But if we are serious about promotion then we have to go there and look to get three points and be positive.

"I remember the game for last season. We needed a win to prevent ourselves from being relegated and we ended up winning 2-0."

County should be confident of victory, they have one of the most feared strike-forces in the league and have added Swindon youngster Ashan Holgate on a month's loan.

He joins fellow forwards Nathan Blake, Craig Hughes and Julian Alsopp in the County squad, providing plenty of fire-power for the Exiles.

Brough added: "We are very well blessed in that department.

"I don't know much about the new lad, but if Peter has brought him in then he must be a very good player.

"We always know that we have goals in us as a team. As a result we know that if we can keep a clean sheet at the back we'll win more games than we draw and that's a nice feeling."
