WALES 19-year-old wing wunderkind George North had a quiet game by his already high standards against Italy, but is adamant his side will do the talking where it matters against France on Saturday.

The North Walian will be hoping for teenage kicks all through the night when Warren Gatland’s men bid for the country’s 11th Grand Slam at the Millennium Stadium this weekend.

The 6ft 4in and 17st 2lb giant, who has drawn comparisons with All Blacks legend Jonah Lomu, created a huge impression when he marked his debut at 18 with two tries against South Africa in 2010.

He already has an impressive strike rate with ten tries in 20 caps, and scored in Wales’ dramatic 23-21 victory over Ireland in their opening Six Nations match last month.

That try saw North, who turns 20 next month, become the first teen to score ten Test tries in international rugby history.

Far from getting carried away by his spectacular rise, the King’s Lynn-born flyer, son of an Anglesey mother and Yorkshireman, shows a maturity beyond his years.

The Scarlets man insists this Wales side won’t get carried away by the hysteria of this week’s build-up to the France game as the nation battles for its third Grand Slam in just seven years.

"There’s going to be a lot of hype this week leading up to the France game which I’m sure the public and the media will do for us," North said.

"We just want our rugby to do the talking really. I’m sure there are plenty of people who will hype up the game left, right and centre but at the end of the day it’s only us who can affect what happens on the pitch."

He admits Wales’ brave 9-8 defeat in World Cup semi-finals to France in October with 14 men after skipper Sam Warburton was controversially sent off for a spear tackle on North’s fellow wing Vincent Clerc still hurts, but the red mist isn’t coming down for him.

"That defeat is a sore subject really," North said.

"If you want to call Saturday’s game revenge or redemption, it’s just another game for us really.

"I think both teams have moved on and I think it’s going to be a great spectacle."
