THERE is an exciting evening of boxing in prospect at the Newport Centre this Saturday night from 7.30pm.
St Josephs super-middleweight Frankie Borg, pictured, tops the bill as he fights for the British Masters title against Luke Osman. And the undercard is packed with Welsh talent including Newport’s Lee Churcher, Lance Sheehan, Anthony Trow, Tom Price, Craig Woodruff, Lewis Patterson, Dai Jones, Tom McAllister, Ray Akhtar, Sean Gorman, Liam Ellis and Joe Jones.
The Inner Core Promotions show is titled Pride of Wales and aims to showcase talented professional Welsh boxers in their home country.
Promoter Kevin Maddox said: “Inner Core Promotions is giving local boxers a chance as many Welsh boxers turning pro aren't given enough opportunities to progress through the rankings.
“More often than not our home grown boxers are used to further the careers of other boxers around the country and don't get a change to fight in their home towns or near enough for their friends, fans and families to support them.”
