CROSS Keys hooker Gerwyn Price says he’ll just keep plugging away in his bid to earn a regional contract after admitting the interest in him has “gone quiet”.

The 27-year-old, from Markham, was the toast of Pandy Park after scoring a stunning 30-metre match-winning try in Monday’s Swalec Cup final win against Pontypridd.

Being part of the squad that won the first piece of silverware in the club’s history was the perfect end to what has been a magnificent season for the hooker.

Price, who returned to the club for a second spell from Neath last summer, has been closely watched by the Dragons all season long while Cardiff Blues cancelled a meeting amid their coaching shake-up.

Neither has acted to snap him up yet, a situation called “baffling” by Keys head coach Greg Woods who believes he will eventually get a pro deal this summer.

Price has a burning desire to play at the next level but admits he is being left playing a frustrating waiting game.

“I’d jump at the chance of regional rugby if it came along,” he said. “I’ll just see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

“If I was given the opportunity then I am sure that I could make it as a professional. I think the likes of (former Keys hooker) Lloyd Burns have shown that it is possible, you just need to get that chance.

“I know that Greg and (director of rugby) Jonathan Westwood have been pushing my case all season but I just have to get on with it. The Dragons were looking at me and it’s gone a bit quiet with the Blues but I’ll just see what happens.

“If it doesn’t come along then I’ll just try and have another good season with Keys and see if it does then.

“After all, I’ve had a great year but it’s my teammates that have allowed me to do so well.”
