COUNTY V YORK (FA Trophy final, Saturday, Wembley, KO 3pm)

STRIKER Nat Jarvis will play his last game for Newport County on Saturday and he’s confident of signing off with a win at Wembley.

The 20-year-old’s loan move from Cardiff City comes to an end after the FA Trophy final against York City and he believes the Exiles will make it a day of celebration.

“Looking at our form against them this season I don’t think we’re underdogs,” said Jarvis, who scored in both league matches against the Minstermen last month.

“We’ve beaten them at home and drawn away so there’s nothing between us. We have nothing to fear.”

Win or lose, Saturday will be an emotional experience for Jarvis who says his time at Spytty Park has improved him as a player.

“I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been a really good experience for my development as a player,” he said.

“I’ve matured a lot. Going to places on the other end of the earth and working hard to get a result has been good for me.

“A relegation fight is a massive experience. The fans have given us stick at times and rightly so at times. They pay their money and are entitled to their opinion.

“It was a really hard start and then we got a new gaffer,” he added. “As soon as he came in he changed things, brought new players in and we slowly improved. We avoided relegation and now we’ve got a cup final to look forward to.”

Jarvis, who scored the winner in the FA Trophy quarter-final against Northwich Victoria at Macclesfield and got a goal in the first leg of the semi-final against Wealdstone, can’t wait for Saturday.

“I’ll be sad to leave the boys,” he said.

“It’s been a season where I’ve got very close with them. I’ve made a lot of friends here that I’ll stay in touch with.

“But playing at Wembley is not a bad way to go out. It was a massive buzz in the city when Cardiff made it to Wembley and it’s the same in Newport now.

“It never crossed my mind when I came here in September,” he added.

“I scored a few goals then went back to Cardiff before returning in January and the cup run has given us something to aim for and spurred us on in the league as well. Hopefully we can cap off the season with some silverware.”
