TREDEGAR’S Mark Colbourne got his bid for gold in the C1 individual pursuit off to a sensational start this morning by breaking the world record in his qualifier and guaranteeing himself at least a silver medal.
Colbourne, who won silver in the C1-3 one-kilometre time trial yesterday, clocked a world best of 3:53.970.
China’s Li Zhang Yu, who took gold in yesterday’s event, also set a world record of 4:00.235 earlier this morning, before Colbourne bettered it.
The two go head to head in the final this afternoon.
