JENNY McLoughlin immediately set her sights on winning a relay medal at the London 2012 Paralympics after missing out in the 100m on Sunday.

The 20-year-old was impressive in the morning heats clocking a new personal best of 14.48seconds for second and fourth overall into the final.

McLoughlin clocked the same time in the final later in the evening however that was only good enough for seventh as France’s Mandy Francois-Ellie won gold.

Namibian Johanna Benson took silver and Tunisia’s Neda Bahi bronze, McLoughlin 0.12seconds off a podium finish but refusing to dwell on it.

For she has the 4x100m relay to contend with on Tuesday night before switching her attentions to her second individual event, the 200m, 24 hours later.

“I got the same time as in the morning and I was looking to go quicker but that obviously didn’t happen,” said McLoughlin – who didn’t even make the 100m final on her Paralympic debut at Beijing 2008.

“I ran a personal best and that is all I can do, it was a quick race.

“I was disappointed I wasn’t in the medals as I was feeling pretty confident.

“But obviously it wasn’t mean to be. I’ve still got the relay and the 200m to go so I have a lot of confidence for those and I will focus on them now.

“I knew coming here that it would be hard and the standard has definitely come on since Beijing but in Beijing I didn’t even make the final.

“So to come and make the final, it has been four years and I have improved massively. I will go into my next races confident.

“I’ve got the relay first, you can’t read too much into previous performances but we have got a good squad so we are pretty confident.”
