Lydiate breaks ankle
NEWPORT Gwent Dragons star blindside Dan Lydiate faces a lengthy spell out of the game after breaking his left ankle in tonight’s win against Edinburgh.
The flanker, last season’s Six Nations player of the tournament, suffered the injury after just two minutes of the RaboDirect Pro12 clash at Rodney Parade.
The Dragons would not confirm a timescale for the 24-year-old's recovery but it looks likely to end his campaign.
“He will undergo surgery on Sunday morning and will be out of the game for some time,” said director of rugby Robert Beale. “It has really really put a dampener on a good evening.”
The injury will certainly rule him out of Wales action for the autumn internationals while its severity makes it unlikely that he will feature in the Six Nations and could also shatter his dreams of being part of the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia.
The blindside, who was helped from the field and taken to hospital, has had a catalogue of injuries to his other ankle.
