Outgoing Chippenham mayor Andy Phillips raised £3,367 for his chosen charity Alzheimer’s Society during his year in office.
He presented the charity with a cheque at Chippenham Museum & Heritage Centre, where an art exhibition was showcasing the work of the Alzheimer’s Carers and people with dementia who took art classes in January.
Most of the money was raised at his ball at the town hall in March.
Julie Brown, home support manager for Alzheimer’s Society Avon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Locality, said: “This is a valuable contribution to keeping our services in the local area.”
Coun Phillips has been to 230 engagements in the past year with wife Nina.
He said: “That’s 230 dresses for Nina!”
Coun Phillips said his highlight of the year was when the Olympic torch came through the town.
“It would have to be just a few days after taking on the role, standing on the town hall steps as the torch came through Chippenham,” he said. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen the town like it before – all the people, the atmosphere.
