ONLY TWO wins from two will do for Abergavenny in Division One of the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League, with tomorrow’s encounter at Panteg promising to be a sticky one.

Victory against then third-placed Chepstow at Avenue Road last weekend has kept their dreams of topping the table alive.

But not even success this weekend and against Penarth seven days later will is enough – they need Bridgend Town to slip up.

The leaders, who were hot favourites for the title at the start of the season, should have no trouble against struggling Tondu at Newbridge Fields this weekend but they face a tricky final away trip to Chepstow.

That gives Abergavenny some hope and captain James Schofield says they must ensure that a Bridgend failure is not wasted.

“We just have to control the controllables,” he said. “We have got to hope that they don’t win one of their games but we still have to keep our end of the bargain.

“Last week we could have easily been beaten by Chepstow but Jon Denning (57) got us out of a hole.

“But whatever happens we have had a good season and we have all enjoyed it.

“We have shown what we are capable of and we can build on it next year regardless of what league we are in.”

Blackwood face a tough trip to Chepstow as they bid to keep Tondu beneath them in the league.

They were soundly beaten by Bridgend last week and will hope to put in a top performance against the Mathern Road outfit, who could climb to third with victory.

Elsewhere, bottom club Croesyceiliog travel to Penarth and Sudbrook will hope to strengthen their grip on third with victory at Pentyrch.
