Cwmbran's Huw Waters and John Glover sign Glamorgan deals
GLAMORGAN seam bowlers Huw Waters and John Glover, both from Cwmbran, have signed new contracts to keep them with the Welsh county until the end of the 2014 season.
Medium-pacer Waters played for Usk Cricket Club with the Monmouth School student making his Glamorgan debut in 2005.
The 25-year-old returned to action this year after missing most of the 2011 season with a serious back injury.
And Waters has been in impressive form this campaign, particularly in the LV County Championship, recording a career-best 7-53 against Hampshire during the narrow two-wicket defeat in April at the Swalec Stadium.
Speaking about his decision to renew his contract, Glamorgan's head of elite performance Matthew Mott said: "Huw’s had a fantastic season, especially after the frustrations of last year.
"He’s consistently one of the better bowlers on the county circuit, a fantastic pro who is committed to Glamorgan, so this is a great boost for the club."
Former Llantarnam School pupil Glover made his first-class debut for Durham MCCU in 2008 while studying at the university.
The following summer he took 5-38 against Durham which earned him a trial and a subsequent place on Glamorgan’s playing staff.
The 22-year-old Glover returned career best figures of 4-76 in the 31-run defeat to Hampshire at Southampton at the end of May and then played an important part in Glamorgan’s exciting three-wicket championship victory away at Northamptonshire, hitting 21 runs off 17 balls.
Mott said Glover is a player to watch out for: "John’s emerged this year and bowled well consistently.
"He’s got a great temperament and his match-winning score at Northampton showed off his all round skills.
"Although he’s still inexperienced, he seems to get better with every game he plays."
Mott added: "The club continues to finalise its squad line-up for the 2013 season, but securing these two players is a real boost for the team. "We believe both Huw and John have a big part to play in our future."
