Dragons sign two tight forwards

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons have signed second row Ian Nimmo from English Championship side Cornish Pirates and tighthead prop Tim Ryan from Italian semi-professional outfit Cavalieri Prato.

The pair have joined the region on two-year deals.

The 26-year-old Nimmo was named in this season’s RFU Championship Dream XV and stands at 6ft 7in tall, weighing 18st 13lb.

He played for the Pirates in their defeats to London Welsh in the two legs of the Championship final.

Ryan, 27, 6ft 2in and 18st 3lb, has played for Munster, Toulon and Newcastle, converting from the back row to prop relatively late in his career.

He started for Munster when they nearly beat the All Blacks at Limerick’s Thomond Park in 2008.

I watched the London Welsh v Pirates game and was impressed by Nimmo, let's hope he turns out like Joe Bearman. Don't know much about Tim Ryan but he may be the boost we are looking for, they may well be good signings I hope.

Well done NGD, Looks like some thought has gone into these two signings. Nimmo did well against London Welsh and shows he can be a good ball carrier in the next flight up. My only worry about Ryan is that he is a bit of a mover..... not always a bad thing, but it is a question mark. I hope he can put down a few roots and lay off the pies....... he has the outline of a fast and mobile front rower. I hope he can get the basics done, thats where we fell away last season. Its set pieces that are the launching pad for fast second/third phase possession.
Good luck lads and Welcome aboard.

Two excellent signings. I think that with a good scrummaging coach also on board we have a chance if patterns of play can be sorted out. Darren Edwards worries me.

I like the thought of having a side mainly made up of Gwent players with a sprinkling of other Welsh qualified players and one or two foreign imports! But same as you END! Darren worries me! Are we doing whats best for us or the WRU? And why should we be worried if its the WRU? Now I am having a laugh!
