Welsh Autoparts Gwent County League PLENTY of goals were scored last weekend and in the First Division, Albion Rovers scored eight when visiting Mardy.

David Pearce and John Lillygreen both scored hat- tricks, Warren Archer and substitute Jermaine Poole adding the others.

Abertillery Bluebirds also hit eight against Spencer Youth at Ringland through Richard Clark, Martin Roan, Lewis Clark, Shane Paul, Owen Goodenough, Joe Heard and substitutes David Gibbs and Lee Bancroft.

Chepstow Town returned from RTB Ebbw Vale with a four goal win, Steven Griffiths (2), Ashley Palmer and an own goal. Coed Eva Athletic defeated Undy Athletic 2-1 at the Causeway with goals from Chris Smith and Martin Houston.

Clydach Wasps had a 4-1 win over Cefn Fforest with goals from Jordan Jones (2), John Nash and Shaun Williams. Eight goals were shared at Pentwynmawr where Abertillery Excelsiors were the visitors. Lee Coleman, Thomas Dando, David Hurley and an own goal for Pentwynmawr, with Daniel Short, a hat-trick, and Shaun Smith for the Excelsiors.

In the Second Division Govilon were defeated for the first time when they visited Tranch for whom John Hanratty (2), Chris Bradbury and Darren Parry scored the goals in a 4-3 victory. Fairfield United defeated Trethomas Bluebirds 4-2 at Llanfabon Drive, Mark Langford, a hat trick, and Danial Jenkins the marksmen. Sudbrook Cricket Club returned from Westfields with a 3-2 victory over Malpas Gladiators, Robert Thorn (2) and Richard Lund the goal scorers.

Llanhilleth Athletic and Rogerstone shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Llanhilleth Park, Jonny Dalton for Llanhilleth, and Richard Clayton for Rogerstone. Trinant and Cromwell also drew 1-1, Craig Price for Trinant and Ian McCloed for Cromwell the goal scorers.

In Division Three, Race were the top goalscorers of the day with 11 without reply when entertaining West Pontnewydd. Daynar Thorpe and Daniel Lewis both scoring hat-tricks, Mark Drinkwater, a brace, Paul Hayward, Stuart Price and Shaun Berry. Llanwern RTB returned from Underwood with a 3-1 victory, James Hood (2) and Leighton Golledge the marksmen.

Nine goals were scored at the Castle grounds where the visitors defeated Caldicot Castle 5-4 with goals from Neil Purnell (2), Graham Smith, Dean Goddard, and an own goal. Rockfield Rovers had a home victory by the odd goal of five when entertaining New Inn through a Sam McCoy hat trick.

Knauf Insulation Gwent Central League THE weather relented, the heavy rain went away and we had a full list of Saturday’s scheduled matches.

The day’s programme was part Open Cup, round one games, and the rest was league games.

In the P&P Pest Control Open Cup, round one, New Inn from Division One beat Division Two Pontypool Town B 3-1. New Inn led 2-1 at half-time with Paul Andrews and Matthew Williams scoring for New Inn, and Gavin Hopkins getting one for the home side. In the second half John Radcliffe scored New Inn’s third goal to put his side through to the next round.

Tranch was too strong for the home side, Crickhowell, who are rebuilding their side. Tranch won the match 9-0. Prolific goal scorer Andrew Hayes scored four, Mark Walker (2), Chris Erasmus (1), Rhys Jones (1), plus a Huw Morgan own goal.

Due to the shortage of players, Gilwern B could not take a side to Llanarth A, who now go through to the next round on default. Govilon were at home to Pandy in a local derby cup game. The sides were level 2-2 at half-time. In the second half Govilon went on to win. Goal scorers for Govilon were Lewis Meadows (4) and Daryl Stimpson. Goal scorers in the first half for Pandy were Sean Cheal and Jason Osbourne.

In another local derby cup round, Trevethin beat rivals Pontypool Town A 8-0. Trevethin scorers were Dwain Hunt (3), his third hat-trick in three games in four days, Shaun Williams (3) and Chris Perry (2).

Following last Saturday’s complete washout, the league got started with a programme of midweek games but throughout the week there were more games postponed due to waterlogged grounds than were played. In the Premier League, last season’s winners have started with two wins out of two. On Monday, Trevethin won 4-1 away at Goytre. Trevethin led 2-1 at half-time. Goal scorers for Trevethin were Shaun Williams (2), Dwain Hunt and Jason Fairclough. Jamie Lee scored the goal for Goytre and was Goytre’s man of the match. Jason Fairclough was Trevethin’s man of the match. Trevethin are in top position.

Pontypool Town are in second place following Monday’s 6-5 home win over Pandy, and Wednesday’s 4-2 win over Lower New Inn. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town v Pandy were Gavin Rogers (2), Richard Gallagher (2), Simon Pugh and Richard Wakeling. Pandy’s goals were scored by Jason Osbourne (2), Kirk Morgan (2) and Steven Wedlock. The sides were level 3-3 at half-time. The Pontypool winner was scored by Richard Wakeling with just 20 seconds of the match remaining. Man of the match for Pontypool Town was Chris Stokes, man of the match for Pandy was Kirk Morgan.

On Wednesday, Pontypool Town and Lower New Inn reversed the fixture after the council called off the Lower’s pitch. Pontypool Town won the match 4-2. Pontypool Town led 2-1 at half-time. Pontypool’s goals came from a Richard Wakeling hat trick, plus one from Sean Kearns. Gavin Millar scored both of the Lower’s goals. Man of the match for Pontypool Town was Richard Gallagher, man of the match for Lower New Inn was Gavin Millar. This match marked the 600th appearance for Pontypool Town of player Gary Davies. The club celebrated after the match with champagne.

Gilwern and District played three games in a week. They won one and lost two. On Monday, Gilwern drew 1-1 at home to Llanarth with a goal by Tom Russell in the 65th minute. Llanarth levelled ten minutes later with a goal by Luke Williams. On Wednesday, Gilwern lost 9-1 away at Trevethin who led 5-1 at half-time. Goal scorers for Trevethin were Dwain Hunt, a hat trick, Matthew Powell, David Jennings, Dean Lewis, Shaun Williams, Nathan Jeremiah and Shane Thomas. Gary Rees scored a consolation goal for Gilwern. Man of the match for Trevethin was Dwain Hunt, man of the match for Gilwern and District was John Pinkney. On Saturday, Gilwern lost 5-3 to Lower New Inn.

Clydach Wasps, who won Division One last year, go top after three games. On Monday they won their local derby match with Govilon, 4-0. The Wasps led 1-0 at half-time. The Wasps were leading 2-0 when they had Phil Odowda sent off but the ten men scored another two for their win. Goal scorers for Clydach Wasps were Simon Tippings (2), a spectacular one scored by Mark Taylor with his left foot from 30 yards into the top corner, and Ryan Price. Man of the match for Clydach Wasps was Kyle Cheshire, man of the match for Govilon was Paul Sullivan.

Crickhowell agreed to change the venue for Wednesday’s local derby match with the Wasps due to a waterlogged Crickhowell pitch, but Crickhowell won the match 7-0 with goals by Craig Evans (4), Kyle Cheshire (penalty), Ryan Price and Simon Tippings. The Wasps led 3-0 at half-time.

On Saturday, Clydach Wasps won 4-0 away to Abergavenny Thursdays at Pen-y-Pound Stadium. Clydach Wasps led 3-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for Clydach Wasps were Simon Tippings (2), John Powell and Paul Congrieve.

On Monday, Abergavenny Thursdays had a 7-0 home win at Pen-y-Pound over neighbours Crickhowell. Thursdays led 2-0 at half-time. The full list of Thursdays’ goal scorers were Joe Pengally (2), David Mason (penalty), Chris Lambert, Robert Didcote, Leon Phillips and Robert Davies. Thursdays had Neil Powell, their goalkeeper, sent off for a professional foul.

Cwmffrwdoer played three, won two and lost one during the week. On Monday, Cwmffrwdoer lost 3-2 away to Blaenavon Blues whose goal scorers were Grant Evans, Nathan Mapstone and Adam Johnson. Goal scorer for Cwmffrwdoer was Christian Parry. The sides were level 1-1 at half-time.

On Wednesday Cwmffrw-doer beat New Inn 3-1. Mike Passmore scored in the tenth minute from the penalty spot to put Cwmffrwdoer 1-0 up. Five minutes later New Inn went level at 1-1 through Josh Raybould. Chris Parry put Cwmffrwdoer back into a 2-1 lead when he scored in the 35th minute. Chris Parry scored his second goal of the match and Cwmffrwdoer’s third in the 85th minute. New Inn had Darren Altoff sent off.

On Saturday Cwmffrwdoer beat Pilcs 3-2 away. On Saturday, Blaenavon Blues beat Mardy 5-1. Blues led 2-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for Blaenavon Blues were Liam Powell (2),Mark Creese, Glen Harvey and Leon Catley.

Matthew Lynch scored Mardy’s goal from the penalty spot.

Fairfield United made it three wins out of three games on Monday when they won 4-1 away at New Inn. Fairfield’s goal scorers were David Roberts, a hat-trick, plus one from Alex Harper. Mark Jackson scored for New Inn. Stand-in referee Jeff Tozer did an excellent job.

On Wednesday, Fairfield had a 4-0 home win over Abergavenny Thursdays. David Roberts scored a second hat trick in Fairfield’s opening two games and Alex Harper got one.

On Saturday Fairfield United beat Sebastopol at home, 5-0. With Owen Cook scoring a hat-trick and Alex Harper and Allen Russell getting one apiece.

Panteg have started their season with two wins. On Monday Panteg won 3-2 away at Mardy with goals by Paul Hale, Tony Dronfield and Neil Gordon. Mardy’s goal scorers were Joe Morgan and Chris Carter. At half-time the score was 1-1.

On Saturday Race and Panteg reversed the fixture and Panteg won the match 10-2. Panteg’s sub Chris White came on in the 70th minute and in 20 minutes he scored four goals with one coming from the penalty spot. Other Panteg goal scorers were Tom Harris (2), Nick Tudball (2), Lee Morris (penalty) and Niall James. Race goals came from Shane Beaumont and Dan Walters.

Pilcs played twice in the week. On Monday they beat Race 5-0. Pilcs led 3-0 at half-time. Pilcs goal scorers were John Lewis (2), Justin Edmunds (2) and Mike Murton.

On Saturday, Pilcs lost to visitors Cwmffrwdoer 3-2 at home. Pilcs goal scorers were Matthew James and Mike Murton. wmffrwdoer’s goals came from Kyle Palfrey and a John Lewis home goal that made the score level at 2-2, and Scott Haines got the Cwmffrwdoer winner.

On Saturday, Lower New Inn won 5-3 away to Gilwern and District. For the Lower Gavin Millar scored a hat- trick, Frazer Millar got one as did Chris Millar. Gilwern’s three goals came from Matthew Burkitt, Adam Carrington and an Owen Edwards’ penalty.

On Saturday, Usk Town on the Island beat visitors Goytre, 3-1. Usk Town led 2-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for Usk Town were George Ashworth (2) and Will Barton. The Goytre goal was scored by Jamie Lee.

Govilon beat Mardy, 5-1. Lewis Meadows (2), Paul Williams, Chris Seabourne and Stuart Norman were Govilon’s goal scorers. Matthew Lynch scored for Mardy.

Monmouthshire Building Society Newport and District League THE Greyhound Senior Bowl first round got under way on Saturday with shock results. Pill AFC went to extra time before going down 4-3 to the young Lliswerry side.

Rhys Luffman (2), Omar Watson and Matthew Perkins got the Lliswerry goals. Cwmbran Celtic have always figured in the latter stages of this competition, but the Tradesmans Arms ended Celtic’s run with a 3-1 win at Machen. Five goals from Daniel Whittaker (2), Neiron Davies (2) and Ryan Davy gave Rogerstone a 5-2 win against Albion Rovers. Shaftesbury Youth hit Cromwell Youth for six in each half of their game at Shaftesbury Park. Simon Jones (4), Gareth Hobbs (2), Kyle Byrne (2), Darren Powell, David Brice, Ross Kenny and Rhys Erickson got the Shaftesbury goals in their 12-1 win.

Newport Corinthians got into the next round with a 2-1 win against Spencer Boys Club with goals from David Collins and Louis Kalter. Caerleon Town fought hard against a strong Trethomas Bluebirds side before losing 3-2 a home. One goal decided the game between Lucas Cwmbran and Malpas with Malpas going into the next round draw. The Cwmbran derby between Oakfield and Henllys Rangers went to Oakfield, 3-1. Pill Millennium Hibernians v Villa Dino Christchurch, and Llanwern Sports v Ship and Pilot were postponed and will be played on Saturday.

The Fire and Ice Club Junior Cup first round saw six games completed. The Ship and Pilot Seconds were more like a speedboat than a ship when they sliced open Malpas Gladiator to record a 9-1 win. Four goals from Danny Tanner, Hieu Ngnyen, Carmel Holdaway and Sam Aziz gave Riverview Hibernians a 4-0 win over Caerleon Town Seconds. The game between Graig-y-Rhacca and County Athletic was decided on penalties after it ended 1-1. County Athletic won the penalty shootout 5-4.

Bettws Social Club Firsts eased into the next round with a 4-2 win against Oakfield Seconds. Four goals from Dean Johnson gave Cwmcarn Athletic Seconds a 4-2 win over Rogerstone Seconds. The veterans of Spencer Old Boys always enjoy a good cup run. This showed in their 7-1 win against Albion Rovers. Paul Mincher (2), David Cooke (3) and James Collins (2) got the goals. The Lliswerry v Graig-y-Rhacca game was postponed.

Two games in Division One saw Pontnewydd United beat Cwmbran Celtic 2-1 with goals from Matthew Ceretti and Chris Herrin. Malpas United hammered Albion Rovers 8-1.

In Division Two, six goals from Terry Whatley (2), Andrew Davies, David Cleere, Anthony Waite and Dale Cresswell gave AC Pontymister a 6-0 win over Newport Eagles. Racing Club Newport won 5-2 against Malpas Gladiator with goals from Clifford Bale (3), Ben Pollard and Steve Thomas. The Tredegar Arms won 4-1 against Lliswerry.

Three games in Division Three saw Pill AFC beat Ty Sign 2-0 with Ray Pulis getting both goals. Coed Eva Athletic gained a 4-1 win over Pill Millennium Hibernians, and Cwmbran Centre YP won 11-3 at Racing Club Newport.

In the Monmouthshire Building Society Sunday Cup, Athletico Allsorts won 7-0 against the Docks Cons. Josh Crawford (4), Chris Hall, Nicky Bird and Ben English got the goals.

One game in the Sunday League saw Whiteheads Haymakers beat R’n’B AFC 3-1 with goals from Thomas Jerrett, Jonathan Edwards and Phillip Molloy.
