NEWPORT County AFC have been given the green light to install and extra 1,000 seats for home fans for their eagerly-anticipated FA Cup fourth round clash with Tottenham Hotspur, writes Andrew Penman.

A temporary stand will be erected behind the North Terrace at Rodney Parade for the visit of the Premier League giants on Saturday, January 27 (kick-off 5.30pm).

Another temporary stand will also be installed at the other end of the ground to allow 1,660 Spurs to attend the cup tie, their first in Newport since 1960.

County say the additional seating will boost the capacity for the match to “around 10,000” and therefore allow more fans to witness an historic occasion.

An Exiles statement reads: “The club is delighted to confirm that a temporary stand holding 1,072 seats will be erected behind the North Terrace for our upcoming Emirates FA Cup fourth round tie vs Premier League Tottenham Hotspur.

“Tickets for this stand will be priced at the same level as the terraces and the club will be operating an unreserved seating policy.

“Please note that a small percentage of seats will hold a restricted view of one corner flag area.

“This decision comes as the club seeks to give as many people in the local community as possible an opportunity to support their local team in the FA Cup.

“This is the first time Newport County have reached the Fourth round since 1979 and the city is coming out in force to support manager Michael Flynn and his players.

“With this incredible support, we’re really excited to be working with Newport Council and Newport BID on some fantastic ideas to make the week leading up to the match really special for the city of Newport, the community and supporters of Newport County AFC.

“Please note that for increased security reasons and to prevent counterfeiting all home tickets for this fixture will be printed on WRU/Dragons tickets.”

Tickets, priced £26 to £30 for adults, go on sale to Exiles fans at 10am on Thursday.

Season ticket holders, Trust members and shareholders will be the first to get their hands on the prized possessions.
