MIDFIELDER Matty Dolan believes the youthful injection of Josh Sheehan and Aaron Collins can give Newport County AFC a new lease of life in the League Two run-in.

Sheehan scored his second goal in two games as County drew 1-1 with Luton Town on Saturday, with Collins creating the goal and wowing the home fans at Rodney Parade with a man-of-the-match performance.

And Dolan, hardly a veteran himself at 25, is delighted to have 22-year-old Sheehan and 20-year-old Collins alongside him in the Exiles’ midfield.

“It was nice to see Josh get on the scoresheet again,” Dolan told iFollow Exiles.

“Josh is a top quality player and, to be fair to the club, to get him here was absolutely brilliant and it’s a marker of where we are going to go as a football club.

“He will get you goals, he will find you those pockets. Maybe when it is a bit more direct then he might get frustrated but that’s up to us then to make sure we get him on the ball.

“He’s there for the goals, that’s his job as the number 10.”

As well as creating Sheehan’s opener, Collins (above) also crossed for Robbie Willmott to head onto the post on Saturday and he caused the Hatters problems all afternoon.

“He deserved his chance, he’s been on fire all week in training and he did brilliantly from minute one to the end,” said Dolan.

“Aaron would probably be the first to tell you that he was a little bit sloppy when he first came in, but he was just getting used to it again and I thought he was fantastic [on Saturday].

“The way he glides past players looks a bit easy for him. It was a great performance from Aaron and hopefully that confidence will mean that he will give even better performances from now until the end of the season.”
