Lincoln 2 County 4

First published in Newport County South Wales Argus: Photograph of the Author by

NEWPORT County produced a masterclass in clinical finishing in the first half to comfortably triumph over David Holdsworth's side.

The Exiles stormed into a three goal lead with a trio of superb finishes, Aaron O'Connor (twice) and debutant Robbie Willmott seemingly settling the clash.

However, on the stroke of half time Lincoln hit back to seemingly give themselves a chance, only for Christian Jolley to spring the offisde trap and square to give Willmott his second.

Chris Bush hit a consolation for the hosts with 12 minutes remaining, but Newport deservedly held firm.

I can see some defences more than a little concerned when they have got the County,s forwards bearing down on them.Well done J E. and the board only a defender needed now.

What a strange league this is.Forest beat county 5-0 then can't beat nuneaton that has helped county a lot. is this a 3 way fight for promotion. Well done County keep it up. confidence must be sky high.

It's very difficult to explain the FGR result at RP. I watched it but I don't know why it happened. Except to say that in football Christmas taditionally does produce some strange scorelines.

GREAT RESULT COUNTY

cracking result and other games going in our favour.

my only fear is that goal difference may come into play at the end of the season, and the way county are giving away silly goals after dominating a first half is worrying to me and alot of other county faithfuls

the two at lincoln today being a prime example, and i cannot remember the last time county kept a clean sheet.

for the cherry on the cake to be achieved i feel county do need to tighten up at the back or all the good work of scoring goals will be wasted.

CONGRATS to justin for spotting rees willmott as a talent. again showing his shrewdness and knowledge.

and i bet he has some cards up his sleeve to strengthen the defence ?????????

as michael aspel once said justin "give us a clue", we are almost there to having a championship winning side

WATCH OUT BARROW , JOLLEY'S GOING TO GET YA!

Great result and Wilmott's performance suggest that Justin Knows what he's doing, so lets keep the faith and I'm sure there will be moves to strengthen the defence in the near future. A clean sheet would be a real bonus!!

I listened to the whole of Tim's wonderful commentary on Newport City Radio. The first half sounded superb with slick finishing. Great! But I thought I was listening to a different match in the second half! What happened? Foot came off the gas!Sorry but I am not a great fan of Lee Minshell and the game seemed to fall away when he came on, as has been the case in previous games. Could not understand this substitution. He just does not provide the necessary service for the strikers. Have we no-one else for this position?
BUT OVERALL WELL DONE COUNTY, A REALLY GREAT RESULT.
I will be at the Barrow game!

Why Thomson is out on loan and Minshull is on the bench I'll never know. Board have shown, with their signings, the commitment I asked for several weeks back but we still need a defender and midfielder if we are to win automatic promotion and avoid the play-offs lottery.
I would ask for a bit of caution over the Lincoln result. They have around half a dozen players out with injury and suspension so anything other than a win there would have been a bad result. We have a terrible run-in with lots of away games, several of them tough ones. So we still need a bit of strengthening to win automatic promotion.

I agree another great result ---but our inability to stop sides from scoring is a major concern . You have to go to 12th. place in the table to find a side who has shipped in more goals . We are now at 41 goals against ( Grimsby 19) with only 6 clean sheets all season .
So ---we are in a good position in the table but need a big strong player at the back and a keeper .
Oh how we miss Gary Warren ----check on his performances in the Scottish Premier ---not missed one game and amazing performances .
I know we cannot look back but lets look forward and make sure come APRIL we have many more clean sheets. This league is wide open and could come down to goal difference.

Yes, I agree with the above comments, our defence is so suspect, stronger opponents could have turned Saturday's
game into a draw during the second half

Prime objectives are strong defenders----go go, we are depending on you .JE

A few more statistics to focus on ---in last 5 years of Conference , no side has failed to be promoted who scores more than 90 goals , but the worrying statistic , no side has ever been promoted who conceeds more than 52.---average for promoted sides is about 40
Hopefully we can be Champions and not worry about these numbers.
Keep banging them in !!!!

Yes it's a bit churlish to carp after such a positive performance but there's always that niggling feeling that it doesn't take much to undo the County defence. The fact that so many people feel the same way seems to indicate that there is a real problem at the back and let's be honest the stats. don't lie ! Listening to Tim's always enjoyable and totally unbiased (!)commentary is a nerve wracking ordeal. Every time the opposition get within eighteen yards of the County goal our defenders sound at sixes and sevens.Maybe J.E. just likes a team that gives the fans a rollercoaster ride every match !! Anyway as long as we keep scoring more than we concede I won't be complaining. The rest of the season's going to be a cracker !!

Unlike this one. Yes the NCAFC website is woefully out of date. "Latest News" ticker-tape is still previewing the Wrexham programme(!) and is still showing the Wrexham game video on the home page. Also previewing the Lincoln game!
Tim Thraves commentary said that the Lincoln video would be available later on Saturday. So am looking forward to seeing it a week next Thursday! Come on guys the supporters who can't make the away games deserve better than this. It is also a good shop window for the next game.
Thanks Argus for being on the ball.
Up the County!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
