NEWPORT County AFC caretaker manager Jimmy Dack is unsure about what the future holds for him but he's backed the players to bounce back against Tranmere Rovers tomorrow night.

Dack has committed himself to the club until the end of the season after Justin Edinburgh's departure to League One Gillingham.

But he's not certain if he will be in the running for the top job or even if he wants it.

"I’m contracted until the end of the season and I’ll give my all until the end of the season," he said after Saturday's 2-0 defeat at AFC Wimbledon.

"You could see that the players gave their all for me but it’s up to the club what they want to do.

"I came in as a number two and I enjoy being a number two. I’ve never been a number one but if results go our way and I actually start enjoying it then who knows?"

Ahead of Tuesday night's clash with Tranmere, Dack says his players are desperate to end a run of four successive defeats.

"Whoever plays in that shirt will give everything for Newport County," he added. "The boys are devastated and they really care.

"We don’t want to slide down the table; we want to build a platform and go again, starting on Tuesday.

"I know these players inside out and they are an honest bunch of lads and if we keep working hard we will turn it round."
