NOTTS County’s Alex Rodman is a doubt to face former club Newport County AFC at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

The 29-year-old winger has been nursing a groin injury picked up during the Magpies’ draw with Boreham Wood in the FA Cup first round.

The problem kept him out of his side’s EFL Trophy and League Two losses to Sunderland and Blackpool respectively, as well as their cup replay victory on Tuesday.

Teammate Jordan Richards is in a similar situation having also come off midway through that first meeting with Boreham Wood and has not featured since.

However, another Newport old boy looks as if he will play a part in the Magpies’ attempts to secure all three points on Saturday afternoon.

Wolves striker Aaron Collins, who left Rodney Parade at the start of the year, is on loan at Notts County until early January.

Collins scored a last-minute equaliser on his debut to earn the Magpies a 2-2 draw with Grimsby on September 3.

He also netted late on in Tuesday’s cup triumph as John Sheridan’s men won 2-0 to progress to round two.

Meanwhile, former Blackburn and Sunderland striker Jon Stead is definitely out for the hosts tomorrow due to an ankle problem sustained in the draw against Crewe.

Michael O'Connor should be available after missing Tuesday with an infected toe, and Matt Tootle is expected to be back to full health following an illness.

Curtis Thompson is not ready to return despite being back in training because of an ankle injury.

Manager Sheridan said: “We’ll probably have a few players back next week, which we’ll need because the games are coming thick and fast.

“Alex Rodman and Jordan Richards are running and Curtis Thompson just needs a game – he's training full out now.

“The physio says Jon Stead’s coming on really well, so you’re probably looking at between 10 days and two weeks.”
