Calzaghe hits back at Frank

Argus columnist Calzaghe is currently embroiled in a legal action against promoters Sports Network, counter-claiming a lawsuit for breach of contract, alleging that Sports Network owe Calzaghe $4.5million.

However, on Saturday Warren blasted Calzaghe in his column in a national newspaper, accusing him of lacking loyalty and arguing that “money is now his master.”

However, in another Argus exclusive, both undefeated champion Joe and trainer of the year Enzo Calzaghe bite back.

Joe explained: “It is very, very disappointing to see Frank once again criticising a former fighter of his in public.

“I was with Frank for 12 years and I think that speaks volumes on the subject of loyalty.

“I don’t want to go into the specifics of what he said, but I think my fans know that I am not obsessed with money.

“It is interesting that he (Warren) makes that accusation against me when I am currently taking legal action against him.”

Father and trainer Enzo was particularly upset with Warren’s comments about Joe pulling out of fights.

“Four incidents in 12 years, four times in 12 years Joe had to pull out of fights,” he said.

“What about a footballer or a rugby player? They can barely go three days without missing a game through injury.

“It is like Frank Warren is trying to hypnotise the public, but they know Joe and what he is about.

“We are all human beings, not race horses. I don’t own Joe and neither does anyone else.

“The issue of loyalty is a strange one to bring up. Joe gave Frank 12-years, most marriages don’t last that long.

“Joe is a success story and it’s a shame he has to deal with things like this when he’s preparing for a fight.

“He has won honours from the Queen and the public knows what Joe is all about.

“When a contract is over, it’s over. No one owns Joe. You can’t say to a child when he is mature enough and when he wants to leave home, no I own you, I am your Papa, you can’t go.

“If you do that they just end resenting you, human beings have a freedom of choice and democracy and Joe has decided this is the path for him.

“I have boxers in my stable who have been with me since they were nine-years old, no-one needs to tell us about loyalty.”
