A QUINTET of Llantarnam Archery Club members helped Wales in bronze at the British Target Championships at Lilleshall.

Jonathan Dyke, Dave Phillips, Tracey Farr and her daughter Eleri and Steve Edwards were part of the seven-strong team competing in 720 50m/70m rounds, head-to-heads and a 1440 round, which included the Home Nations Championship.

Despite being a junior, Eleri finished in a very respectable fourth place in the overall ladies 1440 competition on the Sunday and bagged new under 18 Welsh records in the 720 70m distance, the 60m distance and the Ladies 1440 Fita round.

After a gruelling weekend of shooting, the team finished in bronze medal position in both the recurve and compound disciplines.

Not to be outdone by the seniors, eight of the Welsh Junior Academy archers made camp at Lilleshall to take part in the Archery GB Youth Festival.

They took part in head to head competitions and team events over the course of the week with more than one of the competitions coming down to one arrow shoot offs.

Finnlay, Grace and Jakob Barrett-Rees, Eleri Farr, Alice Reynolds, Thea Rogers, Ryan Pinder and Sam Young all took part and between them brought home a total of four medals.

Thea received a gold medal, winning the individual junior cub competition and Ryan, Alice and Sam won gold, silver and bronze medals as part of the cadet team competitions.

Eleri narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the individual junior women’s competition but has been invited to take part in a demonstration competition in Nottingham as part of the National Series Finals.
