Pooler to hold supporters evening

First published in Gwent Rugby

PONTYPOOL will give an update on their bid to get the green light for promotion when they hold a supporters evening.

Pooler will need to earn a Welsh Rugby Union A licence and finish on top of the Swalec Championship if they are to return to the top flight.

Chief executive officer Peter Jeffreys and corporate director Ben Jeffreys will answer questions at an event at the Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran on Wednesday, August 6 (7pm start).

New director of rugby Alun Carter, who has taken over the reins following the departure of head coach Mike Hook to Bridgend, will also give a presentation.

"We are very much looking forward to meeting with our supporters to learn of their

thoughts as we enter a very exciting season for the club," said Ben Jeffreys.

"The club has obviously been through a lot over the last few seasons and whilst we are delighted with the progress that has been made both on and off the field, we appreciate that none of this would have been possible without the commitment of Pooler's loyal supporters.

"With the club now in a very stable position and with us looking to grow further, it is important that we continue to progress with the views of our supporters firmly in mind."

The evening is free of charge and it is planned that it will run until 8.30pm.

Those wishing to attend should email ben.jeffreys@pontypoolrugby.co.uk before 5pm on Monday, August 4.

I think pontypool are getting a tad ahead of themselves. They weren't brilliant last season and there's a few better teams in this division IMO

I agree, I think that Pooler will be in the top half a dozen or so in the Championship, but I cannot see them winning the league with the likes of Swansea, RGC 1404, Bargoed etc. there. They also have to get the A License, which is no foregone conclusion let me tell you, even if they did have one before. By publishing something like this in the Argus, all they are doing is incentivising the other teams to beat them even more.

After the legal action that went on, I can't see anyway the union would want them promoted.

Agree with newport 76, there are 4/5 teams better. Seems they have a fairly large chip on their shoulder and should perhaps keep their ambitions in house until they prove themselves on the pitch

Personally as an Ebbw Vale supporter I hope Pooler gain promotion, they bring support with them and help create a bit of atmosphere which cannot be said of several Premiership clubs esp. those with region links ie. Cardiff, Llanelli, Newport and Swansea. Article in today's WM highlighting the players going to English and foreign clubs frightening really. "Regional"
rugby is dying and the blazers are overseeing it wither. 5 more years I'll give it.
