Time for a good panto

This year’s ‘Time Will Tell’ was another resounding success for Usk Panto Players during its 3 night run at Usk Memorial Hall, with many in the audience proclaiming it t he best in the Players’ 14 year history.

Winter planting

Wales in Bloom gold award winners, Usk in Bloom, are determined that the town’s flower beds should look colourful in winter and spring as well as in summer. Members have recently completed their winter planting programme in and around the town which has included some 1,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs together with hundr eds of polyanthus.

Cricket trials

Robert Williams, of Castle Oak, Usk, has been inv ited to attend trials for the Wales Under 11 Cricket Team in preparation for the 2009 season.

Celebrating a year of hard work

Band strike the right note

Usk Youth Brass Band is launching its long-awaited CD ‘Now In Session’ on 15th October at an invitation only cheese and wine event in the Sessions House, Usk.

Usk wins gold

While Britain waits with bated breath for any gold medals in this year’s Olympic Games, Usk has already won gold from the Wales in Bloom competition. Chalking up an amazing 27th consecutive First Place in the ‘Large Village’ section of the annual nation-wide competition, the town has also received a gold medal. Gold is awarded to entrants who achieve more than 170 points out of the available 200 in the judging, and Usk’s score of 173 made them certain medal winners.

Bridge hit again

Just one week after repairs followingtraffic damage to Usk bridge, there has been another incident of aforeign heavy goods lorry clipping the corner of the bridge, causing yet more unsightly damage.

Civic Service

Usk's Mayor and Mayoress, Tony and Kim Kear, welcomed over 150 guests to this year's Civic Service, held at St. Mary's Church, Usk, followed by a reception at the Sessions House.

New first responders

Following an appeal for more recruits, the Usk First Responder Team now has three newly-trained volunteers. Tara Kear, Debbie Murray and Pat Seabourne underwent two week-ends of intensive training to join the Usk team, which has been running for six years.

In tune with summer

The excellent Usk Youth Brass Band is featuring in a Midsummer Concert, along with other guests, at the Craft Renaissance centre, near Chainbridge on Saturday June 14. The event will start with a barbecue at 5.30pm, with the musical performance starting at 7pm.
