I REFER to the letter from former Tory councillor Peter Davies, South Wales Argus, 17th May 2017.

While Mr Davies claims that the local Tory association he chairs is content with their General Election candidate in Newport West, he might want to speak to the anonymous Tory source from Newport who has been quoted in numerous press outlets telling reporters that Newport West Tories were envious of their colleagues in Bridgend - another constituency where an external candidate has been parachuted in by the Tory HQ - as ‘at least they had a choice!’ Ouch!

Mr Davies goes on to make a bizarre swipe at Paul Flynn - a man who has dedicated his entire life to public service in Newport - as a ‘Cardiff grammar boy.’

Mr Davies might want to take a glance at this year’s election nominations which show Paul Flynn based firmly in Newport and his own candidate Miss Jones-Evans still residing in Cardiff, where she previously stood for election unsuccessfully.

While the Tories are in a muddle, the people of Newport West will see clearly that this election is a choice between an outside candidate pushed in by Conservative central office or a hardworking local voice in Paul Flynn.

As a Newport County fan and Newport West resident I’m happy to put my trust in Flynn on or off the pitch.
