Another nail in the coffin for Newport. I refer to the closing of the river crossing from the Caerleon Road roundabout to Cwmbran.

The massive queues morning and evening have to be seen to be believed. They are having a disastrous effect on our city centre shops (those that are left that is).

This, I’m afraid, is a pre-cursor of the chaos to come with the proposed widening of the Brynglas Tunnels when a lot of the traffic that is displaced will have to come through the city.

I would suggest to the powers that be that, as a temporary measure, the slip road west on to the motorway at the Caerleon Road roundabout is opened up from, say 8am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm.

I’m sure this would alleviate the situation.
