PC NEILSON is correct in saying that life is all the more precious knowing it is the only one we have. Ethical behaviour should be based on empathy with other humans, and yes also with non-humans. I find it surprising that in our scientific age, so many people cling to supernatural beliefs including internal life.

Have they never thought how terrible it would be never to escape from our consciousness? I’m in my 90th year, and suffer no nightmares as my life draws nearer to its end. Living with reality is not at all difficult, once superstitious beliefs have been discarded.
