I HAVE received a postal vote today for the Police and Crime Commissioner post and, for the first time in my life, I will not be voting.

How can I in all conscience choose one of these faceless candidates without any information about their qualifications? I have no idea who they are or what they do and I would not appoint just anyone to this highly paid job. This post, if it is indeed necessary when we have a perfectly good chief constable, should be appointed after full interviews with people qualified to do so. This money would be better spent on extra police officers, nurses or doctors in this time of recession.
