I WOULD like to reply to Cllr Dix’s letter about the candidate for the Police and Crime Commissioner post (Letters, 2/11/12).

No doubt Mr Hamish Sandison is a very able person in the law firm, but what does he know about police budgets and running a police force? Mr Dix also claims the other candidates might not be able to detach themselves from the chief constable if the need ever arose, but the same could be said for the has-been MPs (John Prescott and Alun Michael spring to mind). Does Mr Dix really think anyone put forward by any political party could really be independent? What is needed is someone who knows how the police works and has served in the police. These are the people who know what’s what, not some yes man for a political party.
