YESTERDAY I went into Newport primarily to pick up goods I had ordered on the internet from M&S, but of course because I was there, I went into a number of other shops as well.
While I was waiting to be served in M&S (I was third in line) I had a chance to look around the shop and noticed quite a lot of customers browsing and buying. Then I went to the food hall and bought as much I could carry and, at any one time, there were always more than six queuing to pay. I went downstairs to the restaurant. I had only the choice of three tables to sit to have my tea and I thought, why is M&S closing this shop? When I got home I read the letter from T Perry and wondered what on earth that was all about. This person obviously has transport to enable the suggestion of going to Cwmbran or Culverhouse Cross to shop. So looking at the broader picture, M&S would lose these customers as they would simply go elsewhere in Newport like the new Iceland or BHS.
