ON November 1 I opened the letters page in the middle of another war of words and read two letters from the atheist persuasion.

One person is very satisfied at being righteous and pleasant without believing in God at all. The other, predictably, is still enraged at anything connected specifically with Christianity. Both demonstrate that all the words, written and spoken have made not a dent in their entrenched disbeliefs. We all have free will. The basis for faith as for rejection of belief in God are equally viable and can never be conclusive. We arrive at belief by an act of the will. Similarly, the rejection of belief is willful. Jesus tells us that all our righteousness is but “filthy rags” before a Holy God. It cannot of itself save our souls. God lays before us Life and Death. “Choose Life!” He says. Which do you choose?
