I WAS surprised to read the article about the delight of the new head of the Chamber of Trade at the early finish of the gas works and how this is going to be good for Christmas trade in the market. Is he not aware works are starting at the front and back of the market?

The market car park is now closed for at least nine months with the loss of all the business parking, shopmobility parking and all the disabled parking. There is a nine-bay bus station being constructed which is bound to impede the traffic around the market for deliveries and access. At the back of the market on High Street new works are taking place to build cafes and terraces, which I am sure will also disrupt access to the market. Disabled business people and shoppers are being neglected with little alternative means of accessing the market and shopmobility.
