Sad to see state of city
2:14pm Friday 11th January 2013 in Letters
SO, more words of wisdom from yet another Newport Labour supporter, as Mr. Dave Humphries (Argus 4.1.13) tries to convince the people that Newport Labour-led councils are not responsible for the disgusting state of our once excellent city.
With the decline of heavy industry, during the decade of Newport Labour’s misrule, the city centre was “pedestrianised”, denying access to businesses, including the renowned Westgate Hotel and the historical and popular Indoor Market etc.
The Newport Labour council managed to find funding for the proposed and failed River Usk Barrage. Surely, some of the barrage fund could be used to save the Pill Millennium Centre!

d-wise the George St. doesn't even have drainage, the gullies having been blocked for decades. The council actually removed the drainage channels and outlets on the walkways about 20yrs. ago making it as bad to walk over in the rain as it is to drive over.It goes on and on,that rubbish substitute for tarmac that they keep laying on Wharf Rd. is coming up yet again , near the Wharf Rd. railway bridge "pavement waterfalls".What a false economy and waste of taxpayers money.

I fear Bob Bright is from the old guard and has his own interests in pretending he is important and getting one over on the tories way to far in front of what is best for Newport even if he did have a pot of cash.

I have wrote to my MP morden about the absolute state of Newport it now resembles a settlement in the Gaza strip each part as run down as the next. I walked through Maindee yesterday and it looks like an abandoned town I have yet to receive a reply. Firstly I asked why the WAG are quite happy to spend hundreds of millions of taxpayers money on a stupid archaic language (s4c gets grants of 100 mill alone) and build themselves huge impressive offices and pay themselves grant salaries when large parts of wales lye in a terrible state.
MP Morden won't reply because she probably agrees with you, I know I do as do thousands of others in Wales.

rty that wishes to ask a question must do it in writing and will get a response within 4 working days!!!
That is a disgrace and actually suggests that he is unable to answer a simple question without research and back up. Someone who is not capable of that, not knowledgable enough on a subject should not be in charge of Newport Council.
Our City seems doomed and we have another 4 years before we get our say and the opportunity to change the administration.
