Bin men guilty of littering

I READ in the paper today (Tuesday 22nd) that Caerphilly County Borough Council enforcement officers had handed out 248 fixed penalty notices for littering offences, which I wholeheartedly support and to report any concerns to Caerphilly Street Pride on 01443 866566.

The enforcement officers should start by following the refuse vehicles around and see some, (not all) loaders, who, upon emptying the bins into the refuse vehicles, accidentally spill items upon the road and leave them, after throwing the empty bins to land anywhere handy. Are their refuse loaders and drivers exempt of this legislation in leaving discarded items, (possibly a health risk), exposed upon the public highway? They are not only in breach of this legislation, but in breach of Health and Safety legislation also. Perhaps the authority should look into this more deeply Ken V. Holder Hill Street Risca

Perhaps they could come to Newport and sort out the biggest litterers in the town, Wastesavers.
Now there`s a bunch who leave a trail of filth wherever they go and don`t bother to clean it up.

Too true. I followed a Wastesaver lorry along Magor road and plastic bottles were flying out of it ten at a time. When I challenged them at the Coldra lights I was told they 'didn't have any nets to keep them in'.

Very true 33daverave, that's without them using the recycle boxes as bowling balls and breaking them when the crash against wall or pavement or 50yards down from your house.

How about being a bit pro-active and reporting the issues you have with Wastesavers to the relevant people, instead of moaning about it!!

It looks as if Mr Holder of Risca is on a super luxury collection system compared to the poor residents of Newport.
