AT THE Caerphilly CB Council meeting the wonderful parents and staff of Cwmcarn School heard the long-awaited news that they had won the campaign they had been fighting for the last six months to get their school back.
Yes, there were those who tried to make shoddy political points or wallow in recriminations, but for me, the parents, staff and children it was a joyous occasion.
While this was going on, Rhiannon Passmore and the whole council burnt the midnight oil trying to find a solution to enable the school to safely re-open.
We scraped and found £1 million to do just that. Some councillors have tried to make petty political points; but I and the bulk of my colleagues understood why we were badgered by parents and staff.
They were fighting for their school and their kids; we would have all done the same if it happened to us.
Why do you think I was shackled to the gates of the nuclear submarine base in Faslane, if it wasn’t for our kids, here and everywhere?
We won the vote. The school will reopen in September. Our message was: give Cwmcarn schools back to Cwmcarn, and bring our children home.
Ray Davies, County Councillor, Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen
