THE pit wheels turn no more, in the valleys of Gwlad y Glo, The land of coal forgotten since Thatcher closed the door.

That year-long miners’ strike involved 16,000 workers, it saw people killed on picket lines and others die in accidents as they scavenged for coal to keep their families warm.

Some 11,312 people were arrested, 5,653 were put on trial and almost 200 were held in prison.

Thatcher’s government won the day, the way they did so will never be forgotten.

The miners’ strike proved that the Tories did not care about the victims of their policies, not then nor today.
