LADY Thatcher’s epitaph should read; “Here lies the Iron Lady who destroyed an industry that once put the great into Great Britain”.

I have read the many letters regarding Margaret Thatcher from various readers.

Mrs Thatcher gave the working person a chance to buy their council house.

Then further down the line when they lost their jobs watch as it got re-possessed.

She stopped the local council from investing in council housing stock; this resulted in no home improvements for council houses. As the first woman prime minister, she did nothing for women in politics. Her cabinet was male dominated and she was the queen bee. What she did do was change the Labour Party, with Neil Kinnock the architect of New Labour. He was able to change the Labour policies free from strong left-wing unions to oppose his ideas. Neil paved the way for a fresh-looking Tony Blair to carry the New Labour torch. Now we have two parties right of centre, attempting to win middle and south-east England.
