FURTHER to my recent letter, may I point out that my comment concerning a “stadium befitting a football league team”, was in no way meant as a reflection on our present home at Rodney Parade, but more a comment on the city council basking in the “glow” of the newly opened “home of Welsh football, at Dragon Park.”

The very same Welsh FA did their damnedest to obliterate our team, the newly-formed Newport County AFC in the early 1990s. Thankfully the club fought back and won the right to play back in Newport – mainly thanks to the persistence of David Hando and his colleagues.

I can only say that I enjoy attending games at Rodney Parade very much, and I should add that I found the staff there very welcoming and helpful. I sit in the Bisley stand and the view is first class, the toilets spotless, the refreshment areas superb and, after the hectic season just ended, I think that the ground staff must be commended for a superb job. With the heavy fixture pile-up and terrible weather, they must have worked their socks off to keep the pitch looking as well as it did.
