AS A daily reader of your Argus, I am writing in regard to the asbestos in Cwmcarn High School.
Surely this money spent on removing the asbestos in the whole school is a waste, as the building must be in urgent need of repair, so how much is that going to cost?
The grant is to cover the asbestos removal, so where’s the other money going to come from for the vast amount of repairs needed? I’m sure the allocated amount of money for repairs to the school wouldn’t cover the cost they need. If there are three schools due for closure, after all this work is done in the school, what if this was one of the schools for closure? The money is wasted.
My sister and I went to Cwmcarn School in 1962, 51 years ago. I’m sure the building needs a lot of repairs. Risca Comprehensive School, which was opened in 1977, at least 15 years newer than Cwmcarn School, is also in need of repairs. I’m sure money allocated to them is not nearly enough.
