THERE has been a lot of criticism of the new “improved” railway station at Newport, much of it well deserved, in my opinion; however, the filthy state of the toilets on the platform is the reason I write this letter.

I recently had cause to use them and was disgusted by the lack of cleanliness.

The toilet seat was yellow with dried urine, the sink hadn’t seen a cloth in weeks by the look of it and the toilet brush had dried faeces clinging to it, as for the toilet pan itself I couldn’t even describe what was in it.

This was obviously not from daily usage, and considering what this new wonder cost the least they could do is provide clean facilities for the public who helped pay for it.

My husband and I use rail travel a lot and therefore see a lot of stations and none of them has been as bad as Newport.

On the positive side there was plenty of toilet paper (most of it on the floor) so come on, let’s see some improvement soon before someone catches something nasty from them.
