Sir – I was amused to see Professor AC Grayling described as a ‘thinker’ (Weekend, May 30). This seems to imply that most people do not think.
I suppose the answer is that Prof Grayling thinks there is no Supreme Being, whereas many others know there is from their first-hand experience of his activity in their lives.
The ancient Greeks had many noteworthy ‘thinkers’ — Plato, Aristotle et al — but as St Paul put it, ‘(what we preach) is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom’ (1 Corinthians 1:22).
The keyword is ‘seek’: ‘You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart’ (Jeremiah 29:13). Anyone seeking not to find God will be successful, but, as Jesus promised, ‘Whoever comes to me I will never drive away.’ (John 6:37).
Many millions of people worldwide have had the satisfaction of seeing their search rewarded by lasting relationships with God himself and fellow believers.
