I VISITED the Newport wetlands today (Friday, June 7) and there was a lot of discussion among the environmentalists there over the endangered Shrill Carder bumblebee.
I was told that the bee is now down to just four habitats in the UK, including Gwent.
The decline in the bee population is worrying because of the impact they have on the food chain.
It is clear we need more wildflower meadows and reduced use of pesticides.
The Monmouth Meadows Group is doing great work at persuading landowners to turn their meadows into wild flower meadows to help the survival of bees.
