WHILE giving directions to two visiting couples in Newport’s centre, I was told that “you need a sat-nav to find your way around the city.”

I then saw why. If visitors and possibly shoppers have to rely on the city centre’s guiding street signs, they will probably end up in Newport, Isle of Wight.

Among others, the signpost at Cambrian Road points Newport Rugby Club in the direction of the Bridge Street Post Office; Library, Art Gallery and Museum also to the Post Office; Passport Office to the rail station; Newport Cathedral to the bus station, and; the railway station to the city centre. Etc.

If it’s vandalism, get vandal-proof signs, especially with the anticipated influx of thousands of rugby and football home and overseas visitors (and shoppers?) expected in Newport soon.
