Twits in power

WHY HAVE the people of Newport tolerated the morons that run our council? If I were a member I would go to great lengths to let no-one know that I was. They are total idiots without a modicum of common sense.

Please put someone like Ian Johnston in charge. He has done an excellent job as PCC, he’s stuck to his beliefs and got the job done after years of inertia by his previous colleagues. I admire Mr Johnston and think he would do a better job than some of the twits in power now.

Mrs H M Carter Firbank Avenue, Newport

It is just not a Newport problem. Almost all councils in the UK are very badly run,. A big problem is lack of accountability and as a result they are run very inefficiently

Cuts to service could largely be avoided by cutting out waste. WE have far to many local councillors for starters

you make it sound like vaz was at the end of the runway shouting "roll up! roll up!"

in reality he had a cup of tea with two romanians to "gain a snapshot" of those coming over.

nevermind the fact that the media scrum out-numbered any romanians/bulgarians arriving!

regarding the letter - i agree with everyone else here. if you're so great mrs carter, run.

Whatintheworld, wait and do not be tired of waiting. If you believe teflon Vaz was there to gain a snap shot of how many of these people will be burdening our groaning infrastructure then with respect , change your prescription, this questionable character represents the highest concentration of immigrant constituents in the country and as far as I am concerned they are more than welcome . As chair of home affairs, this photo
call will have the effect of multiplying the scrounging exodus from the
balkans, he has done our nation no favours.

Concerning Keith Vaz. I admit to not being a great fan of his and especially not of his "Do you love your country?" interrogations. But it is fair to point out that the Home affairs Committee have only reacted to the many scare stories in some sections of the press about immigration from Romania and Bulgaria. In doing this they have visited those countries and members, not just Vaz, were at Luton Airport yesterday to witness at first hand what was happening on the first day and how well border controls function. If they had done nothing then they would have been criticised for that by some. As it is, Vaz has pointed out that the far greater concern is the sheer scale of the illegal migration from North Africa and Afghanistan and Syria rather than the legal migration from the EU which the committee's investigations show have been much exaggerated. That doesn't sound like someone who is hell bent on promoting immigration into the UK.

Newport City Homes is the Council in all but name.It was set up and stock transferred to the "private" company solely to raise outside funds which the Council is unable to do.

Surely voting for anyone else is preferable? If yonks of Labour rule here has left the place in the state that it's in then the catastrophic socialist theory and the blind worship of the red rosette has surely been tested to destruction. And found to be a hideous failure.

The words hideous failure would surely be better applied to the warped and immoral ideology of thatcherism, which is responsible for Britons having less rights at work than in some eastern european countries, British utilities being flogged off to the cheapest bidder, British industries being crushed, and good honest people being demonised as 'the enemy within'.
