Super clubs

THE REASON I believe the current top four are not being supported is because they are super clubs, not regions and therefore only supported by their old club supporters. These super clubs have effectively disenfranchised 60 per cent of Welsh rugby supporters. Supporters up the valleys cannot relate to these super clubs.

If the owners want more support and therefore money, give us something to support. Become true regions or four parts of Wales as put to the super clubs many years ago by the WRU at the start of the professional era. Or at the least become true old counties under old county colours. Leave the club names to the premiership clubs. I could shout for Gwent, but not Newport or Cardiff.

I think you will find that the muddled identities appeal to no-one. A lot of Newport fans are disenfranchised by the made-up regions. Don't even start a debate about "Gwent" as a name!

Spot on Mr Lewis you are exactly right. A large portion of rugby supporters do not recognise the regions as their team and will never do so. It must have seemed a great idea to Moffett and those at the WRU manufacturing a team and demanding that we attend and support them to get our rugby fix. Unfortunately they did not understand the public whose loyalty has stayed resolutely with their clubs. As a result the revenue of the regions is gained from the old club supporters as you rightly point out.
