Wonderful care

First published in Letters

THROUGH your letters column and after spending three weeks in the Royal Gwent Hospital I would like to thank all the dedicated staff for the wonderful care I received as a patient. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them, although they were under pressure with a full ward and very poorly patients. Thank you to everybody on Intensive Care, High Dependency, and D.2. West Wards without whose care I would not be here to write this letter of thanks.

34 MILLION NHS patients failed to get an GP appointment, sorry, the care is no use if you cannot access it.

There is a huge problem with access to GP appointments. It is though worth pointing out how the 34 million figure was reached. 340 million individual consultations took place in 2012/13. 1 in 10 of the 970,000 people who responded to the survey said they were unable to get an appointment at the time they ideally would have wanted. They apply this 10% figure to the overall 340 million to get 34 million. So not 34 million patients, 34 million appointments were not at the exact time and date patients initially wanted. Which is very poor.It is worth knowing how the data is compiled though.

In the new hospital at Ebbw Vale last week to see a consultant we have waited nine months to see.On registering we were told he was running late
three hours later we saw him, One of the nurses told us this consultant
was never ever on time . As far as I am concerned this is evidence of complete contempt for the people who pay his wages .

Everybody who is kept waiting by that consultant needs to tell the Health Board, giving his name and the date and time of the appointment.
