I HAVE to applaud Torfaen council’s plans to strip graves of “over personalisation,” because it has gone completely over the top, with the cemeteries developing into mini Disneylands as in some cases families trying to outdo each other. What is the point of all this stuff? Let us keep a measure of dignity and solemnity in these places.
I always remember the words: of a gentleman who compered many concerts I appeared in when he often said “Don’t give flowers when someone is dead but when they are alive.” Wouldn’t it be better if these families gave their money and gifts to some hospice where the patients, especially the children, could enjoy them during the time they are among us?
