Tea rooms shut

ON Saturday my husband and I visited Belle Vue Park and decided to visit the tea rooms. I was very disappointed to see they were closed. This park is popular at weekends and I would have thought it would be a good time to raise revenue for the tea room. It would be a pity if it closed, as this would lead to vandalism when money has been spent restoring it. While the weather is hot, perhaps more bands could be encouraged to play there. When the new town centre development has been completed, surely we would want to encourage tourists to Newport? Rosalind Lee, Newport

I would agree it would be nice to sere bands playing in Belle Vue. I think the problem may well be that bands are dying out similarly to Choral Singing of which is tragic

I hear a rumour that the Belle View tea rooms may be under new management in the near future which will see extended opening hours.

Meanwhile why not visit Beechwood Park where the tea rooms are open 7 days a week? The food is delicious and reasonable and the service is always with a smile. There are two playground areas for children; the bowls club welcomes new members and the free on street parking is easier than Belle View. The restored mansion house and stables block have been beautifully restored.

The council own Bellevue don't they - there should be a requirement to have the cafe open at certain times (every Saturday through Summer) in the leasing agreement as it greatly contributes to the amenity of the park.

Why not visit the Seawall tearooms at Goldcliff it is close to the seawall/coastal path and it is lovely to take a walk and then sit in the tearoom gardens with a cuppa. You can even take your dog into the gardens, there are also cycle racks.
They are open all day everyday.
